Tony Blair, Britain’s Labour Prime Minister from 1997 – 2007, said in a keynote speech to pro-European campaign group Open Britain on February 17th 2017 that it was his “mission” to persuade Britons to “rise up” and change their minds on Brexit. He claimed that people had voted in the referendum “without knowledge of the true terms of Brexit”,that¬†leaving the EU would be “painful” for Britain and Europe and the benefits would be “largely illusory”,¬†and he urged “a way out from the present rush over the cliff’s edge”.
